As countries begin opening up and easing restrictions, many travellers (ourselves included!) are dreaming about the day we can embark on our next trip.

And while travel may look a little different in the future, we have no doubt that the cultural connections we make and the new perspectives they bring us will remain just as powerful.

When the day comes and we’re given the green light to go, what destinations are top of your list? From the islands of the Mediterranean to the lush jungles in Southeast Asia, the possibilities are truly endless.

To help inspire you, we’ve put together 10 destinations to add to your post-pandemic travel bucket list!

Georgia

Kazbegi, Georgia

Nestled on the border between Europe and Asia, Georgia is said to be one of the world’s best-kept secrets. Filled with historical old cities, rich culture, and hearty (and delicious!) meals, Georgia is a must-visit destination. If that’s not enough to entice you, the country is full of stunningly beautiful peaks, valleys, and rivers that make it a paradise for hikers and nature-lovers.

Fun Fact: Georgia is one of the oldest wine regions in the world. According to National Geographic, there’s proof of the first known wine creation being traced back to the country in 6,000BC!

Croatia

Dubrovnik, Croatia

The photos of Croatia speak for themselves — breathtakingly blue water and ancient walled cities (complete with old fortresses, towers and cannons!) make it a postcard place with something for everyone to love.

To get the most out of your trip here, make sure to hop around some of the historic islands — did you know there are over 1000 of them?! For a breakdown of which to day-trip to, check out Time Out’s guide here.

Cambodia

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Located in Southeast Asia, this underrated country is full of adventure. From trekking through the lush jungles to exploring hidden caves and beautiful temples, there’s absolutely no shortage of exciting activities for travellers to choose from here. Combine this with its friendly locals and affordable prices and it’s no wonder Cambodia is a backpacking favourite!

Jamaica

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Recognized as the birthplace of reggae music, Jamaica was a popular pre-pandemic travel destination with its sandy shores, sunny weather, and super-friendly people. Post-pandemic, we’re guessing it will be no different. While Jamaica’s not typically classified as a low-budget destination, plenty can be done at a lower cost if you know the right tips and tricks. Ecuador

Galapagos, Ecuador

While small in size, this South American country has no shortages of awe-inspiring things to see. For those who love wildlife, the Galapagos Islands are a must-see with its giant tortoises, iguanas, penguins, and so much more.

Fun Fact: Named after the equator which runs through it, Ecuador is the only country in the world named after a geographical feature!

Estonia

Tallinn, Estonia

Often left off of European travel itineraries, Estonia offers plenty of what travellers look for: historical culture, fairytale streets, and of course, delicious food. To add to that, it was named one of Lonely Planet’s best value destinations back in 2016. If you plan to travel there, be sure to check out Nomadic Matt’s list of things to do!

Uzbekistan

Bukhara, Uzbekistan

Love history and architecture in your travel destinations? You’ve met your match with Uzbekistan! Bursting with plenty of both, this Silk Road destination is known for its intricate blue tile work on its mosques, monuments, and mausoleums. A unique gem, this Central Asian country is a true wonder for the eyes and the mind!

Rolas Island, Mozambique

As Lonely Planet says, “this enigmatic southeast African country is well off most traveller’s maps, but it has so much to offer for those who venture here.” With one of the continent’s longest coastlines, Mozambique offers stunning, unspoiled beachfront with plenty of delicious food and friendly locals. While it can be tough to find a lot of research on it, travellers say it’s worth the extra effort — check out Never Ending Footsteps’ experience there!
